For me, the most valuable part of culture bump was simply being aware of cultural differences and recognizing that I am not the only one experiencing a culture bump. Because of the diverse nature of the world today, I or anyone else, can experience a culture bump at anytime. I do not have to be in a foreign country to experience a culture bump, thus the culture bump theory is useful for business both domestically and abroad. Business is now global and there is simply no way to avoid encountering different cultures. With regard to business, I believe that being aware of cultural differences and being willing to admit when you are experiencing a culture bump can be very beneficial. I would not want to ruin a business relationship or deal because I could not effectively manage a new or uncomfortable situation. Therefore, I believe that when presented with a culture bump, especially in a business situation, it is important to be honest and open with those I am dealing with. I would never want to offend someone simply because I do not understand him or her. I know personally it is very difficult for me to admit that I do not understand or know how to handle a situation, but I believe people will be more accepting if I simply ask questions. I would rather embarrass myself than offend others in such a situation, especially when an important business deal is on the line. In reality this display of vulnerability may prove more valuable than trying to act like I have it all together. (April 19, 2012)
