A Reading on Universals

This reading needs quite a bit of work -even for advanced ESL students –because of its content. It is suggested that the class read the article for homework and then read it as a class again –with the instructor checking for comprehension throughout the reading. Below is a list of vocabulary words to be taught before assigning the reading itself.

 

Cyclical=–repeating

To stand out = to be obvious

Implicit = Not stated directly

Frustration = a feeling of helpless and irritability

Commonalties = things that are the same

Risk taking  =taking a chance

Showing off  =Letting everybody see how well you are doing

Emerging  =coming

Ultimately  = finally

Final Reflection:

Even if the conversation between Josh and Mazen was used in Module Three, it can be used again here for the purpose of distinguishing the differences between universal, cultural and individual values.
