LCC students from Saudi Arabia, China, Burkina Faso and Taiwan met with SWIFT volunteers and educators from Schulenburg public schools in an evening of culture bumps and commonalities. They shared cultural perceptions and life stories – stories that ranged from world travels to family celebrations. Participants commented:
“I am really inspired to learn more about other places in the world”
“I am so excited to be able to talk with REAL Americans -usually
I can only speak with people from my own country!”
The evening included activities from the Toolkit for Culture and Communication and ended with a Texas dinner – where it was discovered that apparently delicious bread pudding with lemon sauce really is a universal commonality! More structured meetings are being discussed for the Summer of 2012.
