In Module Three, the video is useful, not only for showing how to discuss about cultural values, but also as a model for students from various national backgrounds to present their ideas and respectfully question and listen to one another. You may want to not use the students talking if you feel your ESL students’ cannot grasp the main ideas. However, with a few modifications, the activities are easily used.

Upper Intermediate to Advanced ESL Levels

In Module Three, the video is useful, not only for showing how to discuss about cultural values, but also as a model for students from various national backgrounds to present their ideas and respectfully question and listen to one another.  With intermediate and advanced level students it is very informative on these and other levels. Little adaptation is needed for this level of student with this module.

The ESL adaptations include

  1. Suggestions for the focus and other activities
  2. Vocabulary and a transcript of Dr. Archer’s introduction tothe module
  3. Grammar: Transition words and intonation along with acloze and a four paragraph essay using the value cards
